Let’s Loom a Pumpkin Hat Today! :)

Today’s the day we learn how to create an adorable little Pumpkin Hat from beginning to end! 😀

Punkin' Hats

Just some refreshers of the project and Loom/Crochet Along:

The pumpkin is created with loom knitting techniques, then the stem and leaf are created using crochet, described in very easy to understand directions in the following brand new video…perfect for newbies and veteran loomers/crocheters alike! Instructions are also included to make pumpkin hat sizes for the whole family.

We will be using:

  • a knitting loom (instructions given for looms with these numbers of pegs: 26 (Martha Stewart Loom), 31, & 36 (Knifty Knitter Looms))
  • super bulky yarn in orange and green (The yarn I use in this video is Lion Brand Thick & Quick, which is a super bulky with 108 yards per skein. I can usually get at least two hats out of one skein of the orange (depending on size made…probably can get 3 of the baby hat size!). The green yarn is the same brand and uses a pretty small amount…probably no more than 10 yards. :))
  • a large crochet hook (size 9mm/US13)
  • and of course, your loom tool, yarn needle, and scissors.

This Loom Along video (which was actually filmed last fall 2012, but I have just finally found the time to complete the editing, lol) is a tad over an hour long, because I go through each step so you won’t get lost anywhere in the project.  So, before you click the play button, be prepared with all your pumpkin making supplies, a cuppa tea, and a nice cozy chair.  When we’re through, you’ll have a lovely little pumpkin hat to help usher in the Autumn season with style!

Any questions or comments as you go through the project can definitely be placed below this post in the comments section and I will be able to answer you directly through there.  Just make sure to refresh your screen, or click the “notify me of follow-up comments via email” button for the newest info and comments! We are also hosting the loom along at our Gettin’ It Pegged Facebook Event Page, so feel free to visit us over there as well. 🙂

**This Loom Along is set for today, September 20, 2013, from 1pm-4pm, PST. these are the “official” hours of the Loom Along where I will be planted at my computer doing nothing else but being ready to help you along with the project. If you can’t make it during that time…no worries! This video is will be available for your use from now on, and you can also ask me questions anytime…I just might not be able to answer immediately. 😉

Evan’s Sweater~

You’ve heard me talk about it before.  You may have even heard me call it slightly derogatory names, like Beast, haha.

Well…that was before I had the chance to get really get to know it.  Before I got to run my fingers through about 22,000 stitches of it.  Yes, you heard that right. When all is said and done, it has been probably more like 25,000. I just rounded up to save my poor little noggin’ the mind blowing truth that the rest of the project is still to come, haha! 😉

I am super proud and just a wee bit ecstatic to say that the BACK PANEL OF EVAN’S SWEATER IS FINALLY COMPLETE!!!

Let’s let that simmer just a bit…

Yessssssss.

I love the sound of those words. 🙂

We have been working on this baby for almost 2 years (ack!) quite some time.  It’s been a joint effort between my daughter, Emily, and myself for our dearest father/hubby.  He’s been not so ever so patient to receive this, what will be, heirloom quality gift from two of his girls, and the wait has been long indeed.  We’d like to end our his long travail by making sure that the sweater will be complete, lovingly wrapped, and tucked under the tree by Christmas this year, 2013.

To ensure this, I’ve set some goals for myself to help me stay on track. Today marks the end of August: the time which was set as a goal to complete the back panel of the sweater- the largest section of it, I might add.  Guess what??  It’s done!!! 😀  I know I already said that, but it feels so knee-shakingly good to say it again, lol.  I don’t even have a current photo to show you the back of the sweater yet.  I just jumped right on here and wanted to share the good news with you all! 🙂

If you’re interested in following the progress of Evan’s Sweater as I continue to work on it…I say me, rather than we, because Emily has already done her part by hand spinning all of the gorgeous yarn to create this project-the knitting part all belongs to me. ;)…definitely feel free to check out my Ravelry Project Page set up just for this.  I actually update it each and every time I do any work on the sweater.  It feels so good and actually provides more motivation to see the project, and all those numbers attached to it, unfold before my eyes.  I’ve been able to stay on track much better after starting the Ravelry page, and use it like a diary of sorts, including lots more specific information about the project itself and the journey it has taken us through.  I also have some photos there for your perusal, and will be adding more as I go along.  I’d be pleased if you’d like to travel along this journey with me. 🙂

Goals:

  • Back Panel done by the end of August  done! 🙂
  • Front Panel done by the end of September
  • First Sleeve completed by the end of October
  • Second Sleeve completed by the of November
  • Collar knit and sweater assembled in December

Of course, if any of these tasks are completed before the set time limits, I’m perfectly alright with that, lol.  These are just the “must-do” times.  Whew!

Well…that’s it for today.  Just wanted to share some of my success with you while its fresh and thrilling, haha!  I hope you’ve been having an absolutely fantastic summer so far!!! 😀
