For the Email Subscribers…

I wanted to apologize about the fact that yesterday’s post was so heavily laden with pics in the actual email you received.  On the blog itself it seems so much less so due to them being in a slide show format. 😛  I have adjusted the settings so that you will receive just a snippet of the post in the email, with a link to the actual thing for your reading pleasure, rather than every single item being dropped into your inbox.  My aim is to avoid any frustration in the future, lol. 😉

Thanks for being the amazing loomers and viewers you are!  Loom On!

Burgers, Brat’s & Fiber…the best way to spend Memorial Day!

We were blessed this year to have many of our family members join us for a barbecue on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend 2011.  🙂  The weather cooperated nicely and was beautiful, warm and sunny. It was wonderful to visit and hang with the fam…I just love and appreciate them all! ❤

First we visited the Puyallup Farmer’s Market and enjoyed the sights and rather glorious smells of all the roasting foods, lol.  There were so many dogs of all shapes and sizes   walking with their owners that day…even a small horse Great Dane!  It was like an informal dog show…pretty fun!  Emily and I picked out a few plants, including 2 raspberry bushes, for which we have high hopes of a bountiful harvest this summer. 🙂

When the delicious aromas became just too much for us, we made our way back to my place for our own yummy lunch with my brother in law Bob as the master barbecue-r for the day.  Even the pets enjoyed the day!

One of the creative highlights of the afternoon included Emily sharing her new found joy of spinning with her aunts and cousins.  She was so sweet to help them each try the spindle and then she washed and set their very own little skein of yarn to take home with them. 🙂

I hope that your holiday has been as filled with fun moments and little blessings as ours has certainly been.  It’s a good time to celebrate the family that we have, while remembering those that have passed, and those that have defended our right to do so.  Blessings to you all!

…a new hobby~

Not for me…I don’t think I could handle anything else added to the pile right now, lol!

No, this is for my eldest daughter, Emily.  She’s become enamored with the joys of playing with fiber!  Remember me telling about our trip to the Madrona Fiber Festival?  Well…she got to play a little bit there, and decided that she just couldn’t resist the pull to create her own beautiful yarns.  She left the event that day with all the supplies she would need to get started: her new Turkish Drop Spindle and a lovely selection of hand dyed fibers.

Since then, she’s absolutely blossomed with spinning energy!  She’s created some of the loveliest yarns…well…see for yourself below:

…are they just luscious???!!! 😀

This is what I gifted for Mother’s Day this year:

Glorious isn’t it???!!!  😀  I’m such a lucky Mama! I think I’m going to be using this beautiful yarn for Helen’s Vive La Difference wrap…can’t wait to dive into that one!

These above yarns were all spun by my Emily on her drop spindle…I still find that process amazing!

Well…soon she decided that this tool just wasn’t enough to feed her fiber frenzy.  It was time to look for a larger spinning wheel.  We traveled to a little fiber farm out in the country and she got to try a few wheels in person before deciding on the Ashford Kiwi.  It was the one that fit both her favorite feel and budget. 😉  Here are some photos of the process of her receiving her and wheel and putting the finishing coats on it, as well as some of the fun pics of her creating her yarns:

Her spinning wheel is in the process of the final clear protective coat.  Soon she’ll be spinning away at a rate that only Rumpelstiltskin could imagine, lol. I’ll keep you posted on the finished product and process along the way. 🙂

I do have a wonderful and exciting announcement to make!  Emily is embarking out on the fiber scene all on her own.  She’s set up a Ravelry account as Emily-Renee, so feel free to befriend her there!

The other exciting news is that she’s opening a shop to sell all her luscious fibery goodness!  Just click on the picture to travel to her shop…she’s building her inventory now, so stay tuned for more and more items to be available soon:

I hope you enjoy the new yarns (& fiberist) on the block! 🙂

PS: I wanted to thank you all for your kind and caring words about our missing kitty, Gus.  We very much appreciate your sympathy and carry your support with us as we try and fill the very large hole he left behind.  Thank you all…you’re the best!
