Changes…

On Jan 8th of this year, I wrote about how I wanted, and yes, needed, to re-shape my life a bit.  Maybe take some turns I hadn’t thought of, or make changes in a fulfilling sort of way.  In some ways I have done just that…

  • I’ve been thrilled to move this bloggy in a new direction…adding a way to be able to Cyber-Teach the techniques and patterns found here in Peggin’ Pages, etc. through the Loom Knitter’s Clique, as well as make some wonderfully loomy friends along the way.  🙂
  • In April, we moved to a better, more live-able home.  Everyone in my little family is much more comfortable because of it.
  • In May, the Loom Knitting Pattern Book was released…of which I got to be a small part of!  This was definitely a change in the right direction!

But, as the year has trudged on, I’ve become more and more dissatisfied with my job…due to changes further up the chain that none of us could do anything about.  I’ve actually applied for a couple of promising positions elsewhere, only to be turned away because of my lack of “formal schooling” in that field.  In one of the positions, it even went so far as to come down to myself and one other person; which only made it more disappointing in the end.  It seems you can’t break into a new career field these days, no matter how great your work history, or how many wonderful things your Character References say about you.  It’s that paper, guilded in gold & only received by extra schooling, that opens doors to new opportunites.

So, a long story entailing 8 months of my life, is culminating in the decision that it’s time to charge ahead…jump in with both feet…explore new horizons…and all that jazz.  Yep.  You guessed it.  I’m going back to school.  🙂

I took the placement test yesterday, and passed the reading comprehension/ grammar/writing section with flying colors…just hand over the diploma now, thank you very much, lol!  But the math…oh, my poor brain!  I need to refresh my Algebra, as I couldn’t find any of the rules of equations that have been hidden away in that room for so long.  I am scheduled to attend an Advising Fair in a couple of weeks, so we’ll see what they say about the math score.  Maybe I won’t need any Algrebra anyway…a girl can always hope!

The fun thing about all this is that my eldest little smartie pants is going to begin her HS Junior year with Running Start, so we’ll be attending college together!  Oh, life is full of surprises, isn’t it?  And they’re not all half bad!  😉

a² + b² = c²

I’m not that mathematically minded…at least in the forefront of my mind.  I always tell my husband and my kids that I can do it…after all, I got all A’s in Algebra during high school, oh, about 19 years ago!  I just have to slowly walk down the unused technical hallway of my brain, through clouds of dust, and cobwebs…find the door to the math functions, search for the forgotten key that I must have hid around here someplace!  Oh, there it is, underneath the doormat that says “Enter At Your Own Risk”.  Then, once I’ve fumbled with the rusty lock and screeeeeeeeched open the heavy door, wiped the cobwebs from the entrance…well, then, I can do math just fine!  😉

Well…the way has been cleared, the entrance dusted, and unlocked.  Let’s hope I can find the answers in there someplace.  I’ll fill you in on the stressing exciting details tomorrow.

“How To’s Day” on Thursday!

My loomy friend, Denise Layman with Knitting Without Needles, is having a contest involving her wonderfully informative tutorial entries to her blog…they’re entitled “How To’s Day”.  In these entries she gives hints and tricks about anything from loom knitting corkscrews to cleaning your house in a flash! 

I’ve really enjoyed reading these posts over time, and my absolute favorite is the one located here. This one is all about using increasing and decreasing to shape your knitted projects, and is based on a tutorial video created by Stephanie at Loomy Daze.  I think this is absolutely essential information for those wanting to add shape to their looming projects…especially clothing!

Thanks so much for sharing your insights with us, Denise (and Stephanie)!  I can’t wait to see what you’ve got up your sleeve next!   😉
