I thought this was a highly important wake up call that should be read by all users of any social networks…especially facebook and foursquare. Always be aware of what your privacy settings are and what you allow your apps to access! It’s much better to be safe, than having “fun”, but oblivious to the dangers you’re inviting.
With care for you in mind,
Bethany~
I’ve not seen this particular app before, but I’m not at all surprised. I really hated to do it, but I unplugged myself from all social networks other than the Yahoo Loom Knitting groups about two years ago when we were heavily involved in the custody issues surrounding the two grandchildren who live with us. I never really used Twitter that much, but I did use Facebook and discovered almost everything you do has the potential to become a privacy issue. You can adjust your individual privacy settings all you want, but with each FB redesign the privacy settings revert to their “less safe” default mode without your knowledge. Also, even seemingly innocent comments can be twisted and used out of context. CBS News featured Five Hidden Dangers of Facebook that illustrates major security risks for the members of this social network.
I was shocked to learn that Pinterest isn’t what it looks like either. I did not read all of their policy before “accepting” it and began posting pictures of good ideas I wanted to save. Apparently when accepting their policies the “pinner”, in this case me, is stating they own the rights to the pictures they have posted.
What!!! I don’t have a blog or a website, how can I post a picture I own? I immediately deleted my boards and pins, but the article I read said that Pinterest is saving the images people post and plan to print a book of them and sell it.
I can’t find the article I read but here is a link to a lengthy discussion of Pinterest on Squidoo:

So now I don’t use Facebook or Pinterest.
Wow, just read this. Very enlightening. Thanks for the post, really.
