A sweet & spicy start to the holidays~

You can always know December has arrived by the smattering of twinkle lights, the beginning of holiday songs on the radio, and the scents of delicious tasties wafting through the air…especially gingerbread!  Mmmmmm…

We experienced this at our house just this last Monday evening as my daughter, Megan, baked her first gingerbread to create her own holiday house for her school event the following day at the ice rink.  🙂  She decided that she wanted to craft her house all out of gingerbread bricks!  I let her have at it, and only provided guidance where needed, as she dove right in and got sticky up to her eyeballs, lol.  She really had a great time, and figured out some neat tricks to support her structure securely…except on the front porch, where the bricks just wouldn’t stay put, or the frosting wouldn’t harden quite quick enough, lol!

All in all, it was a huge success…we all oooh’ed and aaah’ed at the finished result.  Of course, when kids are left to their own devices, they tend to put little quirky tid-bits and inside jokes into their work.  I kept suggesting she put a face on her snowman, but she insisted that it stay just snow, like an abominable, no-face snowman… and the little chocolate chips on the roof?  These are the remaining evidence that Santa’s reindeer have visited recently!  These little idiosyncrasies are what make true art, art, right?  😉

Well… we got to the event at the ice rink, signed up for the gingerbread house category, and then the girls went about the happy business of finding their “ice” legs for the afternoon while I sat cozily in the warm party room and tended to my loom knitting!

When it was time for the announcements of the winners, it turned out that Megan’s house won the top honors by a huge landslide!  😀  She actually gets to compete with the entire Washington State K12 Gingerbread Winterland competition… WooHoo, Megan!!!  We’re so proud of her, because she did it all on her own.  She earned every bit of the honor.

Great job, Girlie!!!

Sharing…

Hi, everybody!  I hope that all of you had an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  🙂  I know that around here, we couldn’t have had a better time.  I’d like to share a few pics with you, as promised, to show how my little house was bursting to the brim with loved ones on Thanksgiving…

While getting ready for our guests to arrive, I went around taking pics of our cute little home…it has so many adorable little touches that make it a true pleasure to live in.  It has tons of character, with all it’s little built ins, arches and old fashioned ambiance.  Everybody really enjoyed themselves, and I think a big part of that was the charm of the house itself.

So, first…a little tour, then onto the holiday festivities: (just click on the pics for a better view)

Thanks so much for taking a gander at my little house and at our family fun at Thanksgiving!  I’ve since put away all the fall decorations and have already begun sprinkling little bits of Christmas here and there.  Nothing gets you in the mood for the holidays better than decorating, lol!  When we have our tree up, I’ll have to share a few more pics of what the house looks like decked out for Christmas.

I do have a couple more great things to show you, and will hopefully be able to post them tomorrow or the next day, so be sure to stop back by…until then, have a wonderful week! 😀

Thankfully Stuffed…

There have been lots of dust bunnies and yarn scraps floating on the air this past week.

That’s what happens when it’s our turn to host my family’s Thanksgiving celebration dinner this year.

Let me make this quite clear:  I have 3 sisters and one brother… with each of their husbands/ boyfriends/ wives/ children/ grandchildren, etc… including our four, we should be having about 30 people over for supper!!!  Because it’s the first time we’ll all be in Tacoma for the festivities, I’ve made sure to extend warm invitations to my aunt, who also lives here, and her family for a little bit of party crashing while they’re preparing for their own Thanksgiving meal….so this could bump the numbers in the house considerably!  Should be fun! 😀  Our little house will be bursting at the seams, I think.

I’ll make sure to take pics, so you can see a glimpse of the festivities and what the inside looks like all stuffed with loved ones. 😉

I certainly hope your own Thanksgiving celebrations bring a brimming supply of happiness and blessings into your life…may your day be filled with delicious tastes, warm friendships, and the comfort of home…

and a little fibery goodness thrown in wouldn’t hurt a bit! 😉

Happy Holidays!

Bethany~
