Girl’s Day~ Yay…I finally have visuals!!!

On Saturday (5/3), my daughters and I got to have a girl’s day out with my family. My 2nd eldest sister’s son is getting married in July, and his bride’s wedding shower was in Lacey, WA. Since we would all have to travel 30 miles to get there, we decided to make a day of it!

Girl\'s Day Out!First we met at the Centralia Factory Outlet Center, where some of us (I won’t mention who! Hehehe) had to do some very last minute shopping for the bride…then off we went to the Olympia Olive Garden for a scrumptious Italian lunch! Mmmmmm- mmmmm! :P

Those around the table: my 2 eldest sisters, one daughter each, my mom, and my own 2 daughters. It was so fun! I think it was good to get out and go have some fun with just us girls…we don’t do that enough. And we were still missing my youngest sister and her daughter, a sister of one of the daughters who attended, and my brother’s wife, and her 2 daughters. Now you see why it’s so difficult for us all to get together…we have a tribe! We were having such a good time, that my sister had to call the bride, and tell her we’d be a tad late for her shower! Time just got away from us.

When we finally made it…about a half hour late!…we had a really enjoyable afternoon getting to know the bride’s family, and all the bridesmaids, and playing those kooky games you can only find at showers. One of the games involved breaking up into 4 different groups, and separating into different places in the house. We then had to use only toilet paper to design complete wedding attire for someone in our group! The bride then got to choose which one she liked best.

Emily\'s lovely outfit~

Megan...the blushing bride~My daughter Emily was the model in our group, and my Megan got to be the bride in another group…I think everyone was thinking “the smaller the model, the less wrapping in TP!”

Check out all those TP roses!

I got to design rosebuds for Emily’s bouquet and headpiece, while the other ladies wrapped away.

Here is the finished TP bridal attire…

Here come the brides....

…and the winner is…

Emily! :D

The bride said that even though she would probably wear dresses like the other three, she liked ours best for all the lovely detail. It’s amazing what you can do with a couple rolls of toilet paper! We tried to fit in a visit to Shipwrecked Beads… but we got there one minute after their closing time. Rats! Oh, well…that will be a reason to get everyone together for another Girl’s Day outing.

On a fibery note: yesterday, I got to KNIT! <BIG SMILE!> I only have 1 more wedge to go on my pinwheel blanket! I’ll post pics as soon as I have it off the loom, and stitched together…then it’s onto the 2 afghan squares I’m terribly behind on…and then I’ll get to the edging for the blanket. I have to shuffle between projects, so everyone’s happy, and I actually get them all done, lol!

Have a wonderful day!

How I got my dream car~

my new precious! :)Well, the story on the lovely little PT Cruiser is a sweet one…We have needed to replace my husband’s truck, which isn’t even on it’s last leg…it’s crawling, gasping down the road, with frequent need to stop and rest, lol!  So, we’ve been on the lookout for a suitable replacement for him to invest in.

Well, I got this call while working on Saturday, that he found the car he absolutely wanted to buy.  I told him how cool that was, and made sure that he checked all the important info, when he told me that it was a car for me!  Well, I’ve always wanted to own a PT ever since they came off the ramps…my youngest daughter even started playing “Mom’s Dream Car!!” instead of “Slugbug”.  But, I didn’t want him to purchase something for me, when he was looking for something for him!  So, with much fuss, he finally convinced me that he would be happy driving the car that had been mine, (which is a lovely Mazda 626 in Brilliant Burgandy, which looks more like sparkly, deep plum) so that I could drive my dream car.  In fact, he wouldn’t take no for an answer!  What a great guy I have!  :)

I’ve been cruisin’ in my Cruiser all week now, as I have had to transport my eldest daughter to her WASL testing in Olympia for school.  Olympia is about a 30 mile drive one way, so I really got to get to know my new car…I LOVE IT!  It’s so fun to drive…it’s like a big little car, if you know what I mean.  It kind of feels like driving a little go-cart around…so fun!!

Thanks so much, my love!  You’re absolutely wonderful!  :D

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring, It’s FLOODING!

Well, the excitement in my neck of the woods is that the woods are being washed away!  We had some nice snow up in the mountains and in the valleys…I love snow!…but, when it turned to rain in the mountains and the valleys, all the rivers decided they couldn’t contain all the bounty.

We haven’t had a flood like this since 1996.  During that exciting year, I was VERY pregnant, and partially in labor, and we were going to be stranded if we didn’t pack up a leave our house immediately.  We gathered our stuff, jumped in the car and had a very exciting race across torrential rivers over roadways, etc.  I was using a midwife’s services and so we had a “birthing kit”.  We fully expected that my husband was going to have to make use of this rather than my midwife! LOL!  My daughter luckily proved to be of the stubborn sort, and decided to not grace us with her presence until the waters receeded and we could make it to the midwife’s office, a few days later.  Such a good baby!  :)

Last night, as we heard rescue helicopters flying over repeatedly, we sent up blessings to those in need.  We are lucky enough to be in a place that doesn’t get drowned when the flood waters rise

When my husband left for work this morning, we all told him to be very careful. He assured us he would be fine…he works just right up the road.  BUT…I just got a call from him…he decided to go a little farther to pick up a coffee, drove through some water (thought it was okay because he was in a truck) and now he can’t start his truck.  I have to go rescue him with some jumper cables…I hope that’s all he needs!  What we’ll do just for that morning cup of coffee.  ;)

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Eerie Lookalikes…

I was going through my family’s photos with an idea buzzing around in my head for a new post, when I came across these really spooky look-alike photos.  Perfect for the Halloween season!

The first I will show you is of my husband.  The top picture was taken in 1988, by myself, while we were dating.  He’s posing proudly in front of his first car…yes, it is a Pinto ;-) …in front of my parent’s house.  Notice how he’s standing with his left leg in front of his right, his hands in his pockets, even the expression on his face and where on the car he is leaning. Spooky!!!!!

The bottom picture was taken in 2003, by my father,  in front of another new car, also taken in front of my parents house.  Notice how exactly alike the two pictures are!  Even the gap of 15 years doesn’t make any difference to the essence of the photos.  CREEPY!!

The next 2 pictures are of myself and my oldest daughter Emily.  The first one is me, in 1986, 10th grade.  The second one is Emily, in 1999, her 2nd grade picture.  How weird is that?! (insert Twilight Zone theme song…)

me…1986Emily…1999

Do you have any eerie photos like these…dopplegangers that appear  13-15 years later, or more?  Tell me about it in the comments…I’m ready for a good creep out!  After all, it’s almost Halloween.    8O

Our day at the Cider Mill~

We all went to Lattin’s Cider Mill yesterday…an absolute MUST visit every fall!  They are nationally known for their excellent cider and people travel from miles around to taste their fabulous apple fritters…we had to wait in line 45 minutes to get ours, and believe me…it was worth every minute!  They said that they premade 1800 dough forms for this weekend and they were already having to make an emergency batch to meet the demand.

Here’s a little slide show of our adventures…
